02 — Bible study app, from Figma case study to live product
Sixteen Eleven Bible
A King James Bible app for people who study scripture closely. It started as my Figma case study and is now a live app on the web, packaged for the App Store and Google Play.
The problem
Most Bible apps are built for quick daily reading. Serious students juggle highlights spread across chapters, flip back and forth between passages, and hunt for verses they only half remember. I wanted an app that treats study as the main job: highlights and notes gathered in one place, comparison screens you can switch between quickly, a way to save precepts, and search that finds a verse from a remembered quote.
Design direction
Set it like a book and get out of the way. Warm paper tones, a classic serif for scripture and generous margins make long reading comfortable, with a true night mode for low light. Tools stay one tap away in a bottom bar instead of crowding the page. The identity is a quiet XVI / XI mark, a nod to the 1611 first edition of the King James Bible.
From case study to product
The finished app carries the case study's ideas through. One verse card gathers highlights in five colors, notes and cross references. A word study explains old King James words with their 1611 meaning and origins. On iPad, two books open at once for comparison. It also reads the whole Bible aloud, works offline, and keeps everything a reader writes on their own device.
